‘He was never really going’ ..

In horse racing, one thing is certain—there are no guarantees. Expectations were high for Defence Witness’ debut, but unfortunately, it wasn’t his day. After settling in midfield early on, it became apparent that he was unable to showcase his true ability on this occasion.

However, this performance is by no means a reflection of his full potential. As his connections continue to learn more about him, both the owners and trainer remain confident that stronger performances are ahead. The team will assess his next steps and plan for his return to the track in the near future.

Reflecting on the race, jockey Tom Midgley commented, “He was never really going, he was never really happy,” a sentiment that was evident in the race replay. It’s not uncommon for a horse to take a few runs to regain confidence after a wind operation, and we are confident that Defence Witness will show his true ability as the season progresses.

We look forward to seeing him back on the track this summer.
