A few things to catch up on-

Since our last update, Ursa Major Racing has been busy both on and off the track, with four runners and a memorable stable tour at Sam England’s yard. Here’s everything you need to know:

A Visit to the Englands

Following Noble Consort’s impressive win, we enjoyed a few well-earned days of rest—topped off by a wonderful Sunday morning visit to Sam England’s yard. Welcomed with tea and Battenberg cake, our owners were treated to an up-close and personal experience with their horses.

The visit included a schooling session with Suitably Surprised and Defence Witness, offering a fantastic insight into the work that goes on behind the scenes. Watching from the centre of the schooling area, our owners were immersed in the action—a truly unforgettable moment.

Next up, Glory and Honour took a couple of laps around the swimming pool, led by Jonny, as part of his final preparations for a run later in the week. With perfect weather and a dedicated team on hand, it was a fantastic day, and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Sam, Jonny, and everyone at the yard for their warm hospitality and hard work.

On the Track: Our Latest Runners

Restandbethankful – Kelso

Back in action at Kelso, Restandbethankful showed his usual front-running style. Despite pressure for the lead, he jumped with renewed confidence and enthusiasm. While he didn’t see out the trip and faded around the two-mile mark, his performance showed plenty of promise. We’re confident he has exciting days ahead—Kelso and Cartmel in the summer look ideal targets.

Pontefract Double – Sonning & Glory and Honour

Tuesday saw two of our runners head to Pontefract. Sonning was first up, making his seasonal debut. While the run didn’t go to plan and he weakened quickly, he was looked after by jockey Jason Hart. Trainer Mark Walford and our Racing Manager Craig are already planning a tactical change for next time, and we’re confident this wasn’t a true reflection of his ability.

Glory and Honour followed and was well-supported in the market as joint favourite at 6/4. Unfortunately, he dwelt at the start and never got into the race. Afterward, Sam noted a slight knock on his leg, which could explain the lacklustre performance. He’ll now enjoy a short break and we look forward to seeing him bounce back to form soon.

Beltane – Thursday Runner

Making his seasonal debut, Beltane headed to the track as the race favourite—something that raised a few eyebrows in the Ursa Major camp! Breaking from a low draw, the plan was to jump well and dominate from the front, but the race didn’t unfold as hoped. However, jockey Dougie Costello reported that Beltane handled being covered up with maturity and stayed on strongly. He’ll come on for the run and looks set for an exciting summer campaign.

All race replays are available now on our YouTube channel. Be sure to check out videos from the stable tour and our latest race pictures below.
