Ursa Major celebrates fifth birthday

Ursa Major is celebrating its fifth birthday this weekend with a vow to keep delivering the best experience in racehorse ownership.

The end of March is a very special time to all at Team Battenberg as Cape Hideaway was our first runner and winner when landing an amateur riders handicap over 1m4f at Doncaster on Sunday, March 25th, 2018.

Emma Todd did the steering that day as Cape stayed on well to lead in the last 50 yards making it a dream start to life as a syndicate.

Our fifth anniversary is marked with Champagne Sarah running at Lingfield – a race she looks to hold fine claims in and it could prove a poignant victory.

We are also revealing our strongest ever line up for the year ahead – with 24 horses shared amongst 10 trainers.

The last five years is something to be cherished with 31 winners in the bag, including a Sunday Series Sprint from Candescence, as well as our first ever double at Newcastle last November.

Our roll of honour is made of up of four wins for Kodimoor, three for Event of Sivola, two apiece for Take A Break, Battle Angel, Clifftop Heaven, Candescence, Fenna’s Loss and Ghadbbaan and single victories for Highway One, Carlovian, Graystown, Cape Hideaway, Dis Donc, Far From A Ruby, Ralphy Boy Two, Melburnian, Kath’s Toyboy, Champagne Sarah, Wreck It Ryley and Moonlight Glory.

And just look at how far we have come since, with now more than 190 owners on board and our first runner at Cheltenham in November in the shape of Ashington who finished a fine fifth. We also have Candescence ready to start breeding for the first time.

Racing Manager Craig Talbot said: “I want to mark our fifth anniversary by thanking all of our owners who have made this half decade absolutely fantastic.

“Without them we would be nothing and I truly appreciate your support for sticking with us through thick and thin.

“I would also like to thank our fabulous trainers, jockeys and stable staff who have helped deliver more than 30 winners. With our strongest ever squad now in place and the flat turf season looming it looks like being another fantastic year for the Battenbergs – fingers crossed.

“I am dedicated to bringing owners the best value ownership experience out there at as close to cost price as possible, while also providing a five star service in terms of communication, updates and on-course experience.”
