Ghadbbaan shines with fine fourth on ITV at York

It’s rare that a fourth place finish feels like a win - but today it did just that.

Ghadbbaan ran a fantastic race in the SkyBet Sunday Series Stayers’ Handicap at York - beaten just over two lengths in fourth under a terrific ride from Joanna Mason and for Mark Walford who has again produced him in brilliant form.

In a race that wasn’t run at a pace to suit, he hugged the rail but rallied gamely from two out, keeping on very well. He looks a winner in waiting.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manager, said: “I am so proud of Ghadbbaan who ran a stormer in front of the ITV cameras.

“He was given a very good ride given the nature of the race and he may have been even closer if there had been more pace on.

“That is a win and a place from two Ursa runners in the Sunday Series this year - and that is magnificent for all the Ursa family.

“Thanks to Jo (Mason, rider) and Mark (Walford, trainer) for their work today and to all Ghadbbaan’s owners, so many of who were on track today.

“This is another great day for Ursa Major and we will now look excitedly at some new options for the horse.”
