Wraps come off flat stars as turf season begins

The flat is officially back—and the wraps are coming off a host of Ursa Major stars.

Candescence and Ghadbbaan will lead our flat team for 2022 by getting started this weekend—our star filly heading to Wolverhampton tomorrow night.

Ghadbbaan then makes his seasonal reappearance on the turf at Doncaster on Sunday.

But it’s not just the flat stars that are out flying the Battenberg flag this weekend—as Event of Sivola bids to go one better in the £30,000 Go North staying chase final on Sunday.

Candescence, ridden by Dougie Costello, faces 10 rivals on the all-weather over a speedy six furlongs and while she may need the run, we are hopeful she will run very well.

Alex Garven partners Ghadbbaan on Sunday in an amateur riders’ handicap over 1m4.

He’s another who will need this as he squares off against 13 rivals.

Event of Sivola is bidding to win a first prize of £18,000 at Carlisle in the Red Rum final and must have a great chance of going close with Jamie Hamilton.

He faces 10 rivals  and prize money goes down to eighth place in the Racing Post-backed series.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manager, said: “We couldn't be happier going into our fourth birthday weekend with a hattrick of runners across the country.

“Event of Sivola arguably tops the bill as he has a second go at winning the Go North Series Final at Carlisle on Sunday.

“He came second in this last year and bounced back to form at Catterick last time. He is versatile in terms of going so we are hopeful of a big performance. Of course we are also excited to see Candescence return to the track at Wolves on Saturday night.

“We are hopeful of a big year with her this time and she will tell us what she wants. We are going on the all weather to give her a sound surface.

“Ghadbbaan will be a real fun horse this summer and this is a great starting point.”
