Four years of Ursa Major Racing

The end of March is a very special time to all at Ursa Major Racing with it being our fourth birthday!

Cape Hideaway was our first runner and winner when scooping an amateur riders handicap over 1m4f at Doncaster on Sunday, March 25th, 2018.

Emma Todd did the steering that day as Cape stayed on well to lead in the last 50 yards making it a dream start to life as a syndicate.

After the race, trainer Mark Walford told the Racing Post: “He was a close second at Sedgefield the time before last so it is great it has gone the other way!”

Since that famous day we have visited the winners’ enclosure a further 16 times, with four victories for Kodimoor, two apiece for Take A Break, Event of Sivola, Battle Angel and Clifftop Heaven; and wins for Candescence, Highway One, Carlovian and Graystown in the Battenberg silks that we love.

And just look at how far we have come since, with now more than 140 owners and 20 horses to pick from—proof positive of the fantastic job racing manager Craig Talbot has done in growing the club into a community.

Craig said: “Wow, it is barely believable that four years have passed since the day our dreams were realised and Cape won for us at Doncaster.

“He was a real star and put us on the map and the way we have grown in the four years since just continues to blow me away.

“I believe in loyalty, trust and giving people the best experience possible at as close to cost price as possible and I hope we continue to get bigger and better with lots to look forward to in 2022.

“Looking back at the winners we have had is heartening and I would love Kodimoor to make it five this summer—he deserves it so much.”
