What a weekend: Ghadbbaan wins at Doncaster

Ursa Major Racing was back in the winner’s enclosure on Sunday when Ghadbbaan bolted up in the amateur riders’ handicap.

Celebrations broke out at Doncaster and across the country as the Mark Walford-trained six-year-old won easily by two lengths.

It was also a special occasion for rider Alex Garven who was riding her first winner under rules.

She gave Ghadbbaan a terrific ride and the result was in no doubt from a furlong out - power packed and tidy she has a great future in the game.

Ghadbbaan himself was looking in terrific shape and he won in style suggesting he would be able to back this up.

It wasn’t the only brilliant performance this weekend, with Candescence running a spectacular race at Wolverhampton on Saturday night.

Dropped back to 6f under Dougie Costello, he got her to the front early and she stayed there all the way - just being overhauled in the shadow of the post.

And Event of Sivola bagged more than £1,000 prize money by coming a very good fifth in the Go North Staying Chase final at Carlisle.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manager, said: “What an incredible weekend - I am just so pleased for our owners who have stuck with us through thick and thin.

“These are the days we all dream of and the reason we do what we do - what a terrific couple of days and many thanks to Mark for producing the horses in fantastic form.”
