Big weekend ahead with five entries

Things are set to get really exciting with five Ursa Major horses entered to run this weekend.

The flat season gets under way at Doncaster and we will be represented there, at Carlisle and at Wolverhampton, with a total of five runners entered at this stage.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manager, said: “We kick off with Candescence at Wolverhampton on Saturday night over 6f. Mark has made no secret lately that we are only going to run her where conditions are right, hence why she is having a run on the all weather to start off rather than risk her on fast ground this early on.

“She is in good heart and will probably need the run but we think she will run well.”

Things then get really busy on Sunday, with Ghadbbaan and Melburnian both entered up at Doncaster in the 1m4f amateur riders handicap.

Craig added: “Ghadbbaan will need the run, but is a top of the ground horse - but we won't risk Melburnian (who would be making her Ursa debut if running) on a fast surface.

“Both are exciting prospects for the rest of the year and it would be great to get them started this weekend.

“Over at Carlisle, we have Event of Sivola in the £18,000-to-the-winner Go North staying chase final - a race he finished second in last year. He bounced back to form last time and we would absolutely love him to go one better this weekend. He is in fine form.

“Finally, Moonlight Glory came out of her second at Hexham so well last Thursday that we have made a speculative entry for her at Carlisle in the 3m1f handicap hurdle as prize money is excellent and she is bouncing at home. There are only 11 entries so if it cuts up and she remains in fine fettle it could be a great unexpected opportunity for her.

“I am sure you'll agree this is an exceptionally exciting time to be an Ursa member and loads of you will be able to go racing this weekend.

“Let's keep our fingers crossed for some nice performances and maybe even a winner.”
