WINNER: Melburnian storms to six length hurdle victory

Champagne corks were popping after Melburnian cemented her name into the Ursa Major history books with a facile victory at Kelso.

The Rebecca Menzies trained mare who had recorded three seconds and two fourths in her Ursa career to date, skipped clear of the field after the second last flight and recorded a five and a half length win.

Collecting £4,500 prize money, it was a huge day out for her owners - and a first of many Battenberg winners for Rebecca.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manager, said: “It was a truly stunning performance from Melanie. We felt that as soon as she got some proper give under foot she would show her best and there we go.

“But the way she did it today was really impressive. Thank you to Rebecca who has trained her beautifully, Nathan Moscrop for both a brilliant ride and superb feedback to our owners and all the staff at Howe Hills.

“We cannot wait to make a plan for her now going forward - it could be an exciting winter.”

It never really looked in doubt today with Melburnian. She was positioned perfectly in midfield, becoming prominent two out and dashing clear approaching the last.

We also ran Ingleby Mckenzie and Moonlight Glory, with 27 owners on course for the day.
