Michael Dods

Michael Dods is a seasoned racehorse trainer based at Denton Hall Stables in Denton, near Darlington, County Durham. He began his training career in 1990, taking over the reins after the passing of his father, Dickie Dods. Under his guidance, the stable has achieved significant success, surpassing the 1,000-winner milestone in 2022.

Among his notable achievements, Dods trained the exceptional filly Mecca’s Angel, who secured back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York in 2015 and 2016. Another highlight was Mabs Cross’s triumph in the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp in 2018, a victory that propelled the stable’s earnings beyond the £1 million mark for that season.

In 2024, the stable maintained its momentum, recording 60 winners. A standout moment was Northern Express’s win in the Moet & Chandon International Stakes at Ascot on July 27, under jockey Paul Mulrennan. This was swiftly followed by Tatterstall’s narrow victory in the Coral Racing Club Handicap at Glorious Goodwood.

Dods’s training philosophy emphasizes a blend of tradition and modern techniques, ensuring each horse reaches its full potential. His commitment to excellence has solidified his reputation as one of Northern England’s most consistent and respected trainers.
