October Newsletter
Hi Everyone!
Firstly I would like to welcome all new members to our racing family, it’s brilliant to have you join us. We are 18 months into what has been so far an amazing journey of mainly highs, with a few lows along the way. We have grown from owning one horse to now owning five in a very small space of time, with a Cannock Chase yearling also on the horizon very soon.
Kodimoor
What a fantastic season Kodimoor has had for us. Since stepping up in trip to 7f he has had 3 wins at Beverley, Ayr and Lingfield, then a close 2nd to a handicap good thing at Catterick. He has done us very proud and certainly put the battenburg silks on the map this season. His form has just slightly tailed off since Catterick but that happens to all horses and there is no doubt he will win races again for us next year. Kodimoor is entered at Newcastle on Monday the 7th and Leicester on Tuesday the 8th with Newcastle being the preferred option. Hopefully the AW springs him back to life.
Illustrissime
The new boy has settled into his new home at Cornborough Manor fantastically well. We genuinely believe we have a bargain on our hands, at 10k for a horse as classy as Dan (his nickname at the Walford yard). Having already won 47k prize money in his 26 starts there is no doubt he has plenty of ability under the Bonnet. Having spoke to Mark, we think he is probably a little bit high in the handicap on the flat at the moment, (82) but when he comes down slightly he can definitely win off the high 70s. He has had 3 hurdle runs winning once and is rated 119. I am sure if he can brush up on his jumping there is many more wins to come in that sphere. We will be looking at races for Illustrissime in the next 3 weeks and soon as I know the target I will let you all know. Finally if anyone wants to visit the yard let me know and I will arrange it.
Event Of Sivola
Our French purchase really disappointed last year in 2 runs. He has been given loads of time and we are hoping to see a much improved showing this term. As with many of the French imports, it just takes them a little bit of time to acclimatise and quite often they’re much better in their 2nd season. The handicapper has now given Event a real chance too. He moves and jumps like a top horse, so I am sure we will see much better, starting first week of November all being well.
Donna’s Dream
Purchased out of a seller last year, she has run lots of solid races finishing 2nd 3rd and 4th since joining the club and deserves to get her head in front. She had a little bit of a scare last week when stumbling after jumping a hurdle in training. The injury seems to have settled down and she will have a scan on Monday to make sure all is ok. If it is, she will be ready to run at the back end of October.
Clifftop Heaven
Our 2 year old to really get excited about. After a disappointing debut at Beverley, has ran 2 cracking races on ground that wouldn’t really suit. Will have a final run of the season at Nottingham on the 16th and with all the rain around, will get ideal ground and I really do think he will go close. Whatever he has done as a 2 year old is a bonus but he is a very smart prospect going into next season and beyond.
Yearling
I have agreed with Mark to take 50% of the Cannock Chase yearling. I have already sold half of our shares and will advertise at the end of October, if anyone does want shares or more information please let me know. He is a very strong, well forward 2 year old who will be ready for early in the season next year.
URSA XMAS PARTY
30th November at Newcastle Fighting Fifth meeting then drinks in the town everyone is invited! Please let me know if you are available to attend?
SYNDICATE STABLE AT DONCASTER
An organisation called Horsepower XP laid on a marquee at the Doncaster St Leger meeting for syndicates to talk to racegoers about becoming syndicate owners. We picked up some useful contacts and following the event we’ve signed up some new members. We continue to have a strong social media campaign that is bringing new members to the club.
***STOP PRESS***
Kodimoor is declared for the 8pm Newcastle race on Monday 7th October. Please would you let me know if you would like a badge to attend?
Thanks
Craig
