WINNER: Corks are popping as Champagne Sarah becomes sixth winner in four weeks

Our biggest spell ever got even greater as Champagne Sarah comfortably won a 6f handicap at Newbury.

The Mike Murphy and Michael Keady trained three-year-old filly was given a peach of a ride by Kevin Stott, who was extending his unbeaten record on the chestnut to two from two.

She looked the winner from a way out, with the race run to suit, with fast ground and a flat track also suiting her down to perfection.

It is hard not to get excited by the daughter of Sioux Nation - and joint trainer Michael Keady has already earmarked a potential quick turnaround next week at Goodwood.

He said: “We've always thought a lot of Champagne Sarah and she's one of those who probably doesn't extend out when she hits the front as you might think she would.

“She travels easily and has a lot of talent. She's a fun filly and there's a race at Goodwood next week for her. We'll have a look at that.”

She became our sixth winner in the last 26 days - and our ninth of 2023, making it 38 in total.

Last year we saddled 12 winners.
