Cut put paid to Candescence's York chances

On the face of it, Candescence did not run badly at all at York despite finishing seventh.

But there was also a genuine excuse - in the shape of this rather nasty cut she suffered at some point during the race last Friday.

That she battled on so gamely - and was a whisker away from fourth- is a huge credit to her and the team.

She won’t be off for long - four to six weeks - and she will be back for another crack at a decent race.

She even came down 1lb in the handicap after the run.

She is also fine in herself - thanks to Mark and all the team and the bets at York.
