Gone but Never Forgotten
Ursa Major Racing Club always put the welfare of our horses first before anything else. In the last month we have had to take the difficult and painful decision to move three of our horses on to pastures new. Two horses have been retired from Racing and one sold on to a new trainer. Details below:
Retired Horses
Joeljalu
Joeljalu had raced three times in Ursa Major Silks and had been beaten a combined 98 lengths across the 3 races. He has been part of the Ursa Major/Mark Walford Partnership for the flat season 2021. Mark Walford and Ursa Major take the difficult decision to retire Joeljalu after he had not shown any desire to be a racehorse on and off the track and will move on to a long and happy life outside of racing.
Mizen Master
Mizen Master initially was bought in a Southwell seller towards the end of 2020 and had been with our primary trainer Mark Walford. He was moved to form a new partnership with young, up and coming trainer Stephen Hanlon in early 2021. After some very valiant efforts and finishing in the minor placings on most of Mizen’s starts, after his last race on 29th March at Stratford it was discovered during a routine veterinary check that Mizen had some problems with his tendons in both front legs. The club and Stephen Hanlon mutually agreed it was in the best interests of the horse to end his career and provide him with a well deserved retirement.

Lets Go Lucky
Lets Go Lucky had originally joined Ursa Major after being purchased in a Wolvehampton Seller in Feb 2020. After preparing for a summer campaign in 2020, she was terribly unlucky to receive a pelvic injury which meant she was unable to race for the entire of 2020. She eventually bounced back and was trained to race fitness for a return in Feb 2021. After 6 runs for the club and not showing any of her previous ability, it was decided by a democratic vote within the club that it was best to sell Lets Go Lucky to another trainer in a private sale in April 2021.
