Illustrissime Statement

Racing is full of ups and downs, highs and lows...here at Ursa Major Racing we have experienced some immense highs over the last few years; Kodimoor’s hattrick and Candescence’s debut win to name a couple. But sometimes we have to experience the lows as well, this week we had a vet visit Illustrissime at Mark’s yard and it was discovered that Dan had a number of niggling and underlying injuries that would make it difficult for him to carry on training and running as a racehorse.

Therefore we made the hard decision with all our owners that it was best to retire Illustrissime from racing altogether. Dan was a horse that bought our owners a lot of pleasure in seeing during yard visits and he was an absolute gentleman to deal with at the stables.

We will be seeking to move Illustrissime on to a new home in due course, somewhere he will enjoy his days and live a happy life. In the mean time he will remain at Mark Walford Racing until this time.

Horse and animal welfare is the number one priority for us as racing club, we will never ever run a horse that should not run and is not fit enough to run, no matter what the cost is to us or our members financially.

For now we will reflect on what a lovely horse Dan is and hopefully we can share you the details of his new home soon!

Thanks for the times and the memories you bought us Dan!
