Ursa Major welcomes Grand National winning trainer Dr Richard Newland

He’s won a Grand National and a clutch of other major races - and now Ursa Major is delighted to welcome Dr Richard Newland to our training ranks.

The Midlands based handler has trained more than 550 winners and surpassed £6m in prize money in a career that has seen him reach the top of the tree in National Hunt racing.

Now we are delighted to announce exciting young hurdler Mr Hailstone will run in the Battenbergs.

The unexposed seven year old finished second in an Ayr bumper before recently running a promising race on his comeback from injury before falling at the last while looking set to be placed.

The son of Sageburg looks sure to come on a bundle for that and will be an exciting horse to have this year with the master of Urloxhey stables.

Not only has Richard won the Grand National (Pineau De Re) and Coral Cup (Burntoakboy), he transformed the form of horses such as Vosne Romanee (winner of 12 races), Grand Sefton winner Beau Bay whose BHA rating rose from 102 to 142 after joining Richard’s yard, and Grade 2 winner Captain Tom Cat who was purchased by Richard for a very modest price.

We are looking forward to a very successful partnership with Dr Newland.
