Melburnian thrills with fantastic second

Melburnian made an utterly fantastic start to life in Ursa colours with a brilliant second at Hexham.

The seven-year-old chestnut mare, famous for her white face, was second of nine runners on her first run since September.

She was dropped out back to settle before making hugely eye-catching progress en route to the home turn, before the winner pulled away.

Given her smart back form today was confirmation that she retains her ability and looks a winner in waiting for an outstanding trainer in Rebecca Menzies.

Craig Talbot, Racing Manger, said: “That was a fantastic start to Ursa life by Melanie and she couldn’t have run any better!

“She was carrying top weight on ground that was firm enough for her and I am sure she will go on to have a really good season for Rebecca.

“Thanks to all owners and our sponsors on another great day.”

Rebecca added: “I’m delighted with her. She’s been keen and gassy there and will improve a tonne for it.

“That will sharpen her jumping up too. She was a bit fresh but absolutely delighted with that.”

Jockey Nathan Moscrop, who rode a fantastic race, added: “She hasn’t run for a long time so was a bit fresh. She probably wants it a bit easier under foot.

“I think if she has already had a run into her she would have won that, but you can’t knock her, she crept into it nicely, she’s nimble and I am really happy with her.”
