Weekly Update
Racing Updates:
CLIFFTOP HEAVEN: Clifftop Heaven ran on Thursday 4th June 2020 in the 6:15pm Betway Casino Handicap at Newcastle over 1 Mile and 2 furlongs. We were really impressed with his run because he finished so strongly and stayed on to only be beaten ½ length by the winner (Sea of Marmoon) and finishing second. Kevin Stott the jockey gave him a good ride and was very patient with him throughout the race. He won £827.75 in prize money for his placing which all helps to cover his costs. He has since only been raised 2 lbs by the handicapper and has come out of the race well, so we are hoping he will run again before the end of June.
ILLUSTRISSIME: Illustrissime or “Dan” as the stable staff call him in Mark’s yard ran on Saturday 6th June 2020 in the 5:40pm Betway Live Casino Handicap (Div 1) at Newcastle over 1 mile and 2 furlongs. Dan and Dougie missed the break at the start of the race, but this didn’t affect Dan too much as Dougie give him a caring ride holding him back at the rear until 2 furlongs out where Dan ran on well and finished in 4th, 2 ½ lengths behind the winner (Colony Queen). He won £348.73 in prize money which again contributes towards his costs. He hasn’t been raised at all by the handicapper following the race and like Clifftop, we are hoping to get him on course again before the end of June.
All members were really pleased with the performances of both horses and they both showed that there is more to come! From the subsequent commentary’s in The Racing Post and Sportinglife, both horses will now be in everyone’s trackers and they will be a lot higher in the betting market on their next runs.
Club Horses Updates:
KODIMOOR: Kodi was due to run on Wednesday 10th June at Yarmouth, but a bad scope meant he had to be declared a non-runner. A course of antibiotics will put him right and he should hopefully be able to be entered a race towards the end of June/early July.
CANDESCENCE: Our big hope for our 2-year-old filly is tantalisingly close now! She is entered at Pontefract on Monday 15th June in the 12:50pm David Wildon Marching On Together Memorial Novice Auction Stakes, We should find out by 12th June if she will be declared to run and then it will be all systems go!
EVENT OF SIVOLA: He is still enjoying his summer holidays, but he will need to pack his bags soon as he will be coming back and getting into some light work in the next month or so.
LETS GO LUCKY: As most members recall she was carrying a small injury when we got her, which was all cleared up during the lockdown period, she is currently getting fit and ready to start her campaign in July and we are hoping she will be able to run into December and during the All Weather season.
Future Horses Updates
We are still on the hunt for our Winter ground horse, there have been many leads and enquires that have been made to various agents and yards over the last few weeks but we are still on our search. We currently have 17 members in our Winter horse telegram group but we would love for more to come aboard! Event of Sivola was the main horse keeping the show on the road for the club during the winter months and we really want to find a deep ground horse we can route behind. Please contact Craig if you want to find out more and join the Telegram group.
Members/Club Updates:
BONUSBALL DRAW: The draw took place on Saturday 30th May and was won by Dave. So congratulations Dave! Dave has very generously donated £50 back into the clubs funds. We’ll be running the Bonusball draw again this month at the end of June. Please do let Craig know if you would like to purchase a ball at £5 each.
FOOTBALL DRAW: A massive thank you to Stewart Campbell for organising a football draw for the club’s funds. He did a fantastic job selling the squares and has raised £465 for the club. Congratulations go to Curtis, Christopher Ashton and Dale. Thank you Christopher for donating £85 back to the club, really appreciate that, so make a grand total of £550 in total. By raising funds now, like this, it means that we can hold off with the club’s membership fee for this year and provides us with a healthy balance during a period of very difficult time for some members.

If you would like to get involved and purchase a team for July’s draw, then please get in touch or contact Stewart Campbell @Scambo03 directly on Telegram. The squares are £5 each, with first prize of £300, second of £125 and third of £75.
Finally, a massive thank you to you all. I really do appreciate what everyone is doing for the club. It’s what makes Ursa Major more than just a racing syndicate, it’s more family. By ensuring that the club has firm financial foundations like this, it enables us not only to support each member, but also to look to grow in the future.
I will be in contact later this month with the agenda the virtual Annual General Meeting which will be held by Zoom.
Thank you all and please stay safe!
